DX Model is commonly used in metallurgical industries for providing oxygen free nitrogen for heat treatment furnaces. Here, the oxygen is less than 3 PPM and but hydrogen is around 0.5 to 1% which is desirable as reducing constituent in most of heat treatment applications.
In DX Model raw nitrogen having oxygen contents 0.5 – 1.0% generated from PSA unit is further purified in De-oxo unit filled with palladium catalyst and in presence of Hydrogen / cracked ammonia. In presence of catalyst, both Hydrogen & Oxygen react & form water. This is an exothermic reaction. From De-Oxo unit, Oxygen free but hot Nitrogen gas is passed through a water cooler to cool it down to ambient temperature. As the Nitrogen gas cools down, the excess moisture condensed out in moisture separator unit. This Oxygen free Nitrogen Gas contains extra Hydrogen contents in the range of 0.5%. Oxygen free but saturated with moisture, Nitrogen gas enters the Gas Dryer Unit to get dried to dew point up to (-) 60°C or better. This Dryer Unit is a twin tower unit, interconnected with automatic changeover valves operated through an electrical sequence timer. This is an internally heat reactivated type dryer.
