As per good engineering practice and to save energy, Heat of compression type air dryer is preferred when wet compressed air is at elevated temperature.
Wet compressed air at elevated temperature from air compressor is directly supplied to dryer. Hot compressed air is used to regenerate dryer tower under regeneration. Thereafter air is cooled in an inter cooler. Moisture in inlet compressed air as also moisture carried away by air during regeneration of Tower is separated in moisture separator. Compressed air is now dried by passing through other tower where air is dried and is taken to application use. Normally, cycle time for this type of air dryers is 4 + 4 Hours i.e. 4 Hours drying cycle and 4 hours re-generation cycle. Operation of complete air dryer , temperature controls are automatic.
