Refrigerated type air dryers does not offer as low a dew point as can be obtained with desiccant based air dryers. Refrigerant type dryer has been the popular, as the dew point obtained is acceptable in many general industrial applications. The principle of operation is similar to a domestic refrigerator or home air conditioning system. Refrigerated type air dryers comprises of two different circuits ‐ a compressed air circuit, divided into two heat exchangers and a refrigerating circuit. The hot and humid inlet compressed air passes through the air ‐ air heat exchanger and then reaches the evaporator (air‐refrigerant heat exchanger), where it is cooled by the refrigerating circuit until it reaches the preset dew point of +4°C, thus condensing the moisture it contains. In the separator the condensed moisture is then separated and removed. This means that the compressed air leaving the dryer has a pressure dew point of 4°C. Lower dew point is not feasible in this type of dryer as the condensate would freeze at 4°C or lower
